چکیده
The nighttime ionospheric response to a geomagnetic storm that occurred on 23–29 September 2020 is investigated over the South American, Atlantic, and West African longitude sectors using NASA's Global-scale Observations of Limb Disk measurements. On 27 solar wind conditions were favorable for prompt penetration electric fields influence equatorial ionosphere extended longitudes. ionization anomaly (EIA) crests shifted 8°–10° poleward compared quiet time monthly mean across ?65°–35°W during main phase. Ionosonde hmF2 (peak electron density height) measurements from Fortaleza (GG: 3.9°S 38.4°W) indicated stronger prereversal enhancement this evening than other nights. As result, plasma bubbles (EPB) at these longitudes evening. This first simultaneous investigation EIA morphology EPB occurrence rate an range geostationary orbit storm.

Airglow observations over the equatorial ionization anomaly zone in Taiwan
Airglow imaging at mid-latitude stations often show intensity modulations associated with medium scale travelling ionospheric disturbances (MSTID), while those carried out near the equatorial regions reveal depletions caused by equatorial plasma bubbles (EPB). Two all sky cameras are used to observe plasma depletions in the 630.0 nm emission over the equatorial ionization anomaly (EIA) region, ...
متن کاملThe diamagnetic effect of the equatorial Appleton anomaly: Its characteristics and impact on geomagnetic field modeling
[1] The diamagnetic effect generally reduces the magnetic field inside a plasma. Its importance is appreciated in regions like the magnetosphere and the solar wind. In the ionosphere, depletions of the geomagnetic field have up to now been considered negligible. The CHAMP satellite provides for the first time the combination of highresolution magnetic field measurements and plasma density obser...
متن کاملRole of neutral wind and storm time electric fields inferred from the storm time ionization distribution at low latitudes: in-situ measurements by Indian satellite SROSS-C2
Recently, there has been a renewal of interest in the study of the effects of solar weather events on the ionization redistribution and irregularity generation. The observed changes at low and equatorial latitudes are rather complex and are noted to be a function of location, the time of the storm onset and its intensity, and various other characteristics of the geomagnetic storms triggered by ...
متن کاملA review on the numerical simulation of equatorial plasma bubbles toward scintillation evaluation and forecasting
Equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) have been a longstanding and increasingly important subject because they cause severe scintillations in radio waves from Global Navigation Satellite System satellites. The phenomenon was found in the 1930s as irregular ionosonde observations and was termed equatorial spread F (ESF). ESF is interpreted as plasma density irregularities associated with EPBs that ha...
متن کاملThe Southern Hemisphere and equatorial region ionization response for a 22 September 1999 severe magnetic storm
The ionospheric storm evolution process was monitored during the 22 September 1999 magnetic storm over the Australian eastern region, through measurements of the ionospheric Total Electron Content (TEC) from seven Global Positioning Systems (GPS) stations. The spatial and temporal variations of the ionosphere were analysed as a time series of TEC maps. Results of our analysis show that the main...
